And so for 2012 they decided to be all wild and radical and actually do again the original and most popular event. Once more, dozens of brightly-coloured wolves lurk about the streets of Wolf Hills!
I decided to go out and track down each one of them, and to share the results of my hunt with the lot of you. Don't you all feel special now?
Without further ado, the latest crop of wolves in Wolf Hills:
1) rEVOLution Wolf
No, that isn't a typo. That is this wolf's name. I have no idea what the EVOL part is supposed to be; this particular wolf is sponsored by a local hardware store.

As you can see, this wolf's motif is the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution (at least; perhaps the Articles of Confederation or something else is in there, too). Apparently this wolf has a very independent yet well-ordered personality.

2) The Professor
Sponsored by one of the local colleges, upon whose campus it lurks.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
3) Wolf Hills Wolf
Sponsored by the local cultural centre.

He lives there with his younger brethren, who goes by the name of
4) Little Mountain Cub

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
5) Little Red Howling Hood
Sponsored by a pharmacy.

Stare into the soul-devouring void of her empty blue eyes!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
6) Muster at Wolf Creek
Sponsored by the town, and guarding the gate into the local Muster Ground. This is where the local militia gathered before marching forth to expel those rascally red-coats from the country.
As such, the wolf shows off various scenes relating to that event, as well as a map illustrating the events of one of the battles (and overseen by a giant fly, apparently, which is probably the real reason why the red-coats ran away).

7) Vincent
Sponsored by one of the local art museums, and lurking on top of the hill in front of the building. His motif is, obviously, inspired by the work of the illustrious artist Mark Sinclair Vincent.

8) Sol LeWolf
Sponsored by a local realtor, but lives behind the art museum that Vincent stands in front of.

As is only fitting for a Minimalist, this guy is one of the smaller statues.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
9) Pollock Pup
Sponsored by one of the local art co-ops.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
10) Get on Board
Sponsored by the local Historical Society, and sitting outside of the old train station.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
11) Harvest Howl
Sponsored by an antique shop.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
12) Wolfy Gaga
Sponsored by a local boutique.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Sponsored by a private couple, but displayed outside of yet another boutique.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
14) A Tale for the Cubs
Sponsored by one of the local civic organisations, and on display outside of another antique shop. This one is by far my favourite of all the wolves, as well as one of the most difficult to photograph adequately.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
15) Xerxes
Sponsored by a local restaurant. But not the Greek restaurant.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
16) Little Rebel Yell
Sponsored by the town, and displayed outside of a museum house.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
17) The Story of Wolf Hills
Another one sponsored by the town, this one patrols the front porch of the tourist information centre and shows off its impeccable fashion sense to visitors.

18) Trail Wolf
Sponsored by the tourist information centre, and lurking in its lobby. Somewhat surreal with the fisherman and all.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
19) Dominicus
Sponsored by a local grocery store, he lurks outside waiting for customers to trip over him so that he can steal their steaks and hamburgers.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
20) A Diamond in the Ruff
Sponsored by a jewellery store. Apparently goes to the same dentist as Kanye West.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
21) Costantino Cucciolo
Sponsored by the local Italian market.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
22) Harvest Cub
Sponsored by the town, and sitting outside of Town Hall. No word on his relation to the previously mentioned Harvest Howl.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
23) Theatre Wolf
Sponsored by the local theatre.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
24) My Home Among the Hills
Sponsored by a gang of local artists, this one sits in the front yard of a private residence.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
25) Dia de los Muertos Cub
Sponsored by our local Hollywood actress, and on display outside of yet another boutique. These wolves seem to like boutiques.
And this is probably my second-favourite of all the wolves this year.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
26) A Sailor is a Wolf in Ship's Clothing
Sponsored by some townsfolk, and on display outside of a rental cottage.

The USS Tolovana was a ship built for the US Navy in the Second World War. Basically, she was a floating service station that sailed along with the warships and refueled them. I have no idea what the ship has to do with us up here in the mountains; presumably, she had some connection with the artist or sponsors.

27) Serenade of the Mountain Wolf
Sponsored by the local olive oil vendor.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
28) All Shook Up Eternal Flame Pup
Sponsored by the local celebrity museum.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
29) Mountain Evening
Sponsored by the local festival committee, on display in front of another one of the town's art co-ops.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
30) Octoberfest
Sponsored by the local tavern.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
31) Teotihuacan
Sponsored by one of the town's civic organisations, and displayed in front of an old house that was an art co-op until it started to fall into a giant sinkhole.

And no, I don't have a clue what a somewhat mysterious pre-Toltec civilisation from Central America has to do with the town here.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
32) Aida
Sponsored by. . .CRAZY FORMER-NEIGHBOUR LADY!!!!!! As this one is on display on the corner of her property, I tried to be discreet when sneaking up to photograph it. Even so, as I approached I heard a commotion in the house, the sound of madly-dashing footsteps thudding through the building, and then the slamming and locking of multiple locks of the front door near the wolf. . .

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

He shares a little den there with one of the wolves from the 2009 pack.

And those are the wolves of the 2012 Wolf Hills wolf pack!
