Haberdashing

Today I was talking about hats with someone, and I got to thinking about the various types I own. I've ended up collecting a fair number of different styles and shapes of hat over the year, suited for a number of different climates and situations.

And so I decided to look at just what all I own.

First specimen: a lightweight Summer hat. Cotton, with a nylon (?) mesh to let the breeze through and a squeeze-toggle thing in the back for tightening the fit. Very classy.

Boating hat, also good for in the warm weather. Made out of strong canvas. Waterproof, sunproof, and it even floats with enough buoyancy to serve as a boat for a family of hamsters.

General purpose hat. Very sturdy, made of waxed cotton. Sort of like wearing a mouldable helmet.

Basic flat cap for basic stylish dressing. Made of cashmere. Good for in the car, or for when you want a hat that you can stick in your pocket when it's not needed.

Akubra-esque hat. Thick leather, with a wool felt lining I added myself. My basic rainy weather hat for on all but really warm days, though I do get some odd looks from passersby sometimes when I wear it with my duster coat (at least I don't wear cowboy boots as well).

Wool watch cap. General sort of hat for cool days. I like this particular style because it can keep the sun and snow out of your eyes, unlike the more common variety.

Inexpensive synthetic ushanka. Good for general mucking about in blizzardy weather. To see it in action, just look here!

My fancy ushanka. Made with wolf fur. Acquired when I "permanently borrowed" it from where it was sitting on a table in a radar installation I was scouting.

Nomex/Kevlar balaclava. Fireproof and slash-resistant. Just what every aspiring ninja needs in his basic dress.
